- Nikolay Kozitskiy was the only foreign athlete to have won the Sambo Japan Open Championship in Tokyo in 1972 (in final match Nikolay Kozitskiy beat World Judo Champion and Silver medalist Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki). He won Outstanding Player of the entire event, Best Technique Award, and a special award from the Asahi newspaper. He was awarded these special prizes by the then-IJF president and Professor of Takai University, Segiyoshi Matsumae.
- He has more than 35 years experience as an international coach and was the USSR National Team coach for 20 years.
- His students have won over 50 gold medals in Sambo World Championships.
- He has been a coach consultant to Olympic bronze medalist, D. Nosov, and 3-times World Champion A. Mikhailin.
